The PTA has a new look - we have relaunched as the FRIENDS OF HAWTHORN with new faces and new ideas.
AGM – Wednesday 9th October in the staff room at 3.30
On Wednesday 9th October 2013 the Friends of Hawthorn (PTA) will be holding its Annual General Meeting at the school at 3.30. Everyone welcome, including children.
The Friends of Hawthorn are responsible for organising both the summer and Christmas fetes resulting in much needed funds for various things within the school such as the outside picnic tables, wooden blocks, contribution to the prom, end of year discos, reading books and many more things. As you are aware we also run an annual Easter egg hunt which is paid for and run by members of the Friends of Hawthorn.
However we cannot continue to do this without your help and support and we are looking for volunteers to help us to continue with this valuable and wonderful cause so please join us. We understand everyone is busy but if you can spare any of your time we would really appreciate it.
Next meeting AGM – 9th October in the staffroom at 3.30.
Committee members of the Friends of Hawthorn

LADIES NIGHT - February 2010
We had a wonderful evening of pamper, fun and cakes in Rhydyfelin Non-Pol Club, Poplar Road, and a great night was had by all. The children who attended enjoyed their time, and did not want to leave early!! As we were using this as a joint fund-raising event with the Hawthorn Voluntary Action Playground Group, we raised nearly £350 for each association. We were asked by many people when we are likely to hold another such event!!
QUIZ AND BINGO NIGHT - May 2010
What a fun evening. It was lovely to see so many families and teachers attending this quiz and bingo evening to help raise funds for the school. Even though it was only a short event, we raised £70, which may not sound a lot, but we have lots of items left over to use in the Summer Fayre. A fun and enjoyable evening - one which we will repeat in the Autumn.
SUMMER FAYRE - June 2010
We were blessed with another scorching day, and even though the date clashed with some other large events, we still managed to raise over £700. The money has already been allocated, and the children will see some changes when they return to the classrooms in September.
SUMMER FAYRE - June 2011
Another scorching day for the Hawthorn Primary Summer Fayre. This year we decided to try an earlier time, and raised a massive amount again. The theme was beach party, and we even had a miniature beach in the yard! The bouncy castle and inflatable slide run by Rhondda Castles were a great hit again this year, along with a large amount of games and stalls, and the barbecue food disappeared quicker than the chef could make it!! Thanks to everyone who helped make it another fantastic fund-raiser.
CHRISTMAS MARKET TRIP TO WORCESTER - Dec 2011
Following the success of last year's Christmas Market trip to Bath, we were asked by a number of people to run another trip. We decided on Worcester, and were blessed with a crisp dry day for shopping, eating and enjoying the run up to Christmas. We all agreed that it was a lovely day, and look forward to next year!
CHRISTMAS FAYRE - Dec 2011
This year's Christmas Fayre was slightly different, as we had invited local people to bring their own stalls, and Santa had a new home in the Reception / Year 1 room - and what a home it was! Everyone commented on how lovely the grotto was, and a huge thanks goes out to the small group of helpers that set it up, and made the night a fantastic success. We made a clear profit of £1551, which is testiment to the hard work that goes into making our events so fantastic!
